When I married Jonathan, I had only one child, not understanding the demands of caring for a child or children for that matter; I began having babies every nine months.  I did not understand about protection, or the danger and stress I was putting my body through. Because of both Jonathan immaturity, and mine we could not provide for the children we were bringing into the world.  All my new husband wanted to do is make fast money and easy money, he had no skills, and no patience to work at learning how to earn an income for his new family.  Like most young people our age it’s about making money Rapping, or selling drugs or using the system to support our responsibility.

After a year of living in the streets going from house to house with two babies in tow, my mother found out about our situtation and decided to apply for custody of our children.  She was given temporary custody in New York City.  After nine months of my mother having temporary custody of our children, Johnathan parents Robin and Minerva petition the court for custody of my three babies.  Both Robin and Minerva instructed me on what the tell the judge, They told me to tell the judge I wanted my children turn over to them instead of my parents.  God I was so blinded by empty promises, I did not realize just how much I’ve hurt my mother and father, they’ve done so much for me, Jonathan and our children.  They never applied for welfare or any public assistance of any kind.  My father supported us all on his salary and we made due.  Who ever is reading my story I want everyone to know just how much I love and appreciate all that my parents have done and that I will never hurt them like I did before ever again.  I was so stupid and scared of not obeying Jonathan and his family at the time of my decision to turn over my babies.

The courts in New York, told my parents that they would have to share custody of the children, my mother refused for very good reasons.  In her own words, “they should have been arrested for what they have done, having married me to their son without respect or regards to them being my parents.”  Right there and then my mother withdrew her petition.  Once again I ask that you understand her reasoning as to why she wants nothing to do with the Rivera family.  From her point of view she sees them as opportunist, as adults they choose to do dishonorable things to manipulate a situation in their favor.

What Robin and Minerva should have done was sit down and talk to my parents to help decide what would have been best for Jonathan, the baby and me.  They should have told my parent their intent for marrying me to their son.  They should have explained to my parents why they felt it was best to make himself or herself my payee instead of Jonathan, and why they thought they had a right to take over my parent lawsuit.
